We initiated this petition on April 18, 2024, in response to the pressing humanitarian issues in Gaza and the urgent need for a proactive stance by the Australian Universal Federation (AUF). Motivated by our commitment to justice and the teachings that guide us to act courageously, we aimed to catalyze meaningful change and reflection within our community.
As we reflect upon the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), who said, “You will be numerous like straw on the surface of the water, but you will be weightless,” we recognize the truth of these words in our current situation. We are many, yet without the influence and impact that should accompany our numbers. It is a known truth, as echoed in the hadith, “Unbelief is one community,” that Muslims must unequivocally stand with Gaza. Choosing a side is inevitable, and by not doing so, one inadvertently supports the actions of the opposing side.
In light of this, our petition achieved its goal of highlighting the pressing need for action, though it did not elicit the response we had hoped for. Instead of engaging with the substance of our petition, the response we received seemed to deflect and obscure the issues at hand. Despite this outcome, we will continue to speak the truth and stand up for what is right. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have supported us, helping uphold divine justice. May Allah accept our deeds and intentions.
We have done everything within our power to work collaboratively with representatives from AUF and its sub-organizations to find a resolution. Despite our efforts, we were unable to reach a satisfactory outcome. We have consciously chosen to restrain ourselves from making this a public spectacle. We have not pushed this matter on social media or sought to make it viral because our aim is not to cause harm but to advocate for change within the principles of this noble cause. Here, we suggest to our friends: it is not about “what others will say,” but what our conscience and our faith require us to do, which is what moved us to act. We tried to be the voice of the community’s conscience with this petition.
We remain committed to our values and will continue to advocate for justice and peace through respectful and meaningful dialogue. We hope for a future where all organizations can truly reflect the principles of humanity and compassion that they stand for.
Thank you to everyone who has stood by us in this journey.

Aliriza Yavuz | ARO Gaza campaign has been stopped. The current campaign on their website is for Palestinians that are already in Australia and not for Gaza. Still thankyou to ARO for awesome efforts there. Also another good news is you can still donate to Gaza directly via many other organisations who have the courage to do so. |
Abdurrahem | I did not understand why ARO has been targeted in this petition??? They raise funds for the people of Gaza. Check its website |
Zijad | Shameful |

Hulki | Everyone should question themselves how they have contributed to the Palestinian people so far. The easiest thing is to criticize.. |

Anonymous | As a humanistic and social justice movement we should be at the forefront in supporting or at the very least making our disposition obvious. I have been truly disheartened by the stance of our organisations. |
Ekrem | |
Guner Hussein | I put name down acknowledging that I initially put my name down then I changed it to anonymous. I have not felt right since. I first turn to myself and question how much I have done for this cause. Then I sign this as an acknowledgement that we should do better as whole |

Anonymous | I don’t agree that all sub organisations are publicly neutral as I am aware of some fundraisers in the community by these organisation but an announcement on the general stance would be appreciated. Other groups are using this neutrality against anyone/anything associated with AUF |

Nalan Cebeci | In these troubling times we expect and pray solidarity and unification . Gaza and other systematic genocides should be in the core of our responsibility and representation . |
Anonymous | I don’t think the last comment fits the purpose of this petition. This is getting unnecessarily divisive and rude. I suggest regardless of views, people use other platforms to respond to each other. |
Anonymous | To the hero below, raising funds isn’t the sole issue, but perhaps more so, not doing enough to condem the injustice at hand, and having a neutral stance to the supposed ‘2 sided conflict’ evident throughout AUF rhetoric |
Anonymous | To the people who created this, I hope you had the decency to speak to the head of those organisation ARO, AIS etc to understand what they’ve been doing before stirring up the community to cause division. |
